Resources are broken up into 2 main categories - Food (Bushels) and Royal Crowns (rcs)

Food (bushels) is essential to the survival of any economy. Without sufficient food your people will grow weaker, which in turn results in a weaker economy. You may even find your population (both domestic & military) start to perish within your realm if there is a severe food shortage.

Likewise without money (crowns), you will be unable to further expand your economy through training, exploration and recruitment. Furthermore you will be unable to pay your military, which in severe cases may result in many resigning their posts.

In addition, those skilled in sorcery will require an additional resource - Mana Stones. These are the essential items required to cast any spell whether offensive or defensive. However, it would be good to note that this is not required for all races and/or playing styles. See Sorcery(Spells)

All units within the Feudal World require both food and wages. The below tables the relative cost per unit

All resources have an maximum limit within any realm
Your realm has to maintain food and wages for all military that are home or away
If your net food is negative (and people die due to starvation) people are more hestitant to come back to your realm therefore you there will be no serf growth the following turn (normal mage/blackguard conversions & drafting will still be as normal)
If you are not producing enough food there is a chance troops will die every hour. Food will be distributed to the champions first then funnelled down to the remaining military units
If you are not earning enough money there is a chance troops will die every hour. Money get distributed to the champions first then funnelled down to the remaining military units
